Eastern Cape, South Africa Safari
Many of our guests want to add more time on safari while traveling to South Africa. A great place for Safari is the malaria-free Eastern Cape area. There are several private game reserves in the area, which offer the opportunities to see South Africa’s famous wildlife, such as lions, giraffe, African buffalo, or hippo and many more.
We have visited each of these reserves personally, and selected our recommended lodges as follows:
Kariega Private Game Reserve
This 10,000-hectare family-owned and operated private game reserve has 5 different lodges to select from, ranging from 4 to 5 star. They have two rivers – the Kariega and Bushman’s Rivers running through the property that make for spectacular game viewing and magnificent scenery.
Amakhala Private Game Reserve
Situated in the Eastern Cape only a stone throw from Addo Elephant National Park, Amakhala offers the biggest variety lodges ranging from 3 to 5 star. All 10 lodges are owner-run. Amakhala is 8500 hectares and is home to the famous big 5.
