Madiba’s Birthday – 67 minutes of Goodwill – 18 July 2012

This is my first ever Blog entry! I’m so excited to start writing about what we are up to here at Earthstompers Adventures. I could not find a more suitable subject for my first Blog Entry than Madiba’s 94th birthday and what the Earthstompers Tour Group got up to on this day.

On 18 July 2012 The Earthstompers Tour Group did their 67 Minutes of Goodwill for the birthday of Nelson Mandela or better known by the South Africans as Madiba. (Nelson Mandela Day)

Why 67 Minutes and What is Mandela Day?

https://www.mandeladay.com
Following the success of Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebrations in London’s Hyde Park in June 2008, it was decided that there could be nothing more fitting than to celebrate Mr. Mandela’s birthday each year with a day dedicated to his life’s work and that of his charitable organizations, and to ensure his legacy continues forever.

The Mandela Day campaign message is simple: Mr Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. All we are asking is that everyone gives 67 minutes of their time, whether it’s supporting your chosen charity or serving your local community.

Mandela Day is a call to action for individuals – for people everywhere – to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place, one small step at a time, just as Mr. Mandela did.

What did Earthstompers do?

The Tour Group: Chrissy and Charlie Wolfersberger from the US (Father and Daughter combination), Hillie Aldering and Marco Van Bommel from Holland and Ozum Saygi from Cyprus and Tour Guide/owner/manager of Earthstompers joined forces with the guys from Afrovibe Lodge Myoli Beach in Sedgefield under the leadership of owner/manager Lyle Katzen and we painted 7 doors that was in a Pretty bad state at Masindane Aids Relief Centre in Sedgefield. Lyle Katzen offered our service to the management at Masindane, they were really relieved and excited about our idea.

It was Day 3 of our 6 Day Garden Route and Addo Adventure and it was a lovely sunny day, but the guests on the Earthstompers Tour still opted to do their 67 minutes of Goodwill for the Birthday of Nelson Mandela instead of spending the afternoon strolling the markets and Waterfront of Knysna. Paint, Rollers and Brushes were sponsored by myself ( Earthstompers Adventures ) and Lyle Katzen from Afrovibe Lodge Myoli Beach in Sedgefield – (https://www.afrovibe.co.za/). The guests had a great time doing their 67 minutes of Goodwill and they all promised to keep on doing their 67 minutes of goodwill wherever they might find themselves on 18 July every single year.
